A Good Time for a Good Cause!

In response to the disastrous flooding that occurred in various parts of WV several days ago, the Bar Foundation Board of Directors has decided to assist the utilization of volunteer lawyers and clinical law students at Disaster Relief Centers and other locations, including the use of telephone and electronic communications, to provide legal guidance to eligible persons, families and businesses affected by the flooding. There may be the need for money for incidental expenses, communications, office expenses, etc., which could be handled though small Bar Foundation grants to worthwhile charitable organizations.

Additionally, in the past week, Legal Aid of WV, the American Bar Association and the WV State Bar have collaborated to put together a website with lots of law related flood relief information, as well as a webinar which was held on July 7 for lawyers who have volunteered to provide legal guidance to citizens in the flood areas.

The American Bar Foundation Fellows and the WV Bar Foundation Fellows will hold their joint luncheon meeting in conjunction with the Annual Meeting of the WV Bar Association. The  joint luncheon is scheduled for 11:30 AM on Friday, August 5, 2016, in the Dominion Room at the Omni Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, VA.

The Bar Foundation Fellows program is modeled after the American Bar Foundation, and almost all ABF Fellows are also Fellows of the WV Bar Foundation. The WV Bar Foundation’s Board of Directors has approved a contribution to the success of the event.

Fellows wishing to attend the August 5 joint luncheon should contact the WVBA at 800-944-9822 or send an email to Frema Wilson(, or call her direct at 304-522-2652.

The WVBA Annual Meeting is an excellent educational, networking and social event. To register for the entire three day meeting, go to
