|BAR FOUNDATION AWARDS GRANT
WV Bar Foundation President J. Franklin Long (above on left) congratulates Bill Acker, Director of Broadcasting and Technology at WV Public Broadcasting, for receiving a $5,000 Bar Foundation supplemental grant to support The Law Works legal affairs program that has appeared for more than a decade on WV public television stations across the state. The legal education program, hosted by Bar Foundation Fellow Dan Ringer of Morgantown, has included law related discussions with Governors, members of the state and federal judiciary, legislators, lawyers, government officials, teachers, students, etc. The Bar Foundation
has committed tens of thousands of dollars over the years in support of this worthwhile endeavor to educate our citizens regarding their rights and responsibilities under the law.
During its meeting earlier this month, the Bar Foundation’s Board of Directors, elected J. Franklin Long of Bluefield as its President for the 2011-12 year. President Long had utilized the Strategic Planning Committee to formulate plans for both the coming year and beyond. His goals and objectives include the initiation of an endowment campaign, the resolution of the Bar Foundation’s buildings situation and a cy pres program, as well as the commencement of new activities involving lawyer leadership opportunities, mentoring by experienced lawyers and a special lawyer recognition event. The Board supported President Long’s proposals without exception.
The Bar Foundation has provided, electronically, the 2011-12 membership dues statements to all active practicing lawyers in West Virginia. The dues levels have remained the same at $50 for annual memberships and $500 for lifetime memberships. Bar
Foundation Fellows are lifetime members and are not required to make any additional payments. As a Bar Foundation member, please encourage your colleagues to join the Bar Foundation and become involved in the programs and services of the philanthropic organization for the legal profession and the justice system in West Virginia.
