WVBF GRANT-WVJLAP-   As the philanthropic organization for the legal profession and the justice system, the Bar Foundation’s mission is to improve the administration of justice and the provision of legal services to WV’s citizens. A major portion of achieving that mission is by making grants to worthwhile nonprofit entities.   Six years ago, the Bar Foundation Board of Directors approved a $25,000 grant ($5,000 per year for five years) to be provided to the WV Judicial and Lawyer Assistance Program (WVJLAP) to support the initiation of its Annual Conference and for needed training for its distinguished Board of Directors members. Pictured above are Bar Foundation President Christy Morris (Charleston), on the left, and WVJLAP Board of Directors Chair Karen Kahle (Wheeling), on the right, commemorating the final $5,000 annual payment which was made recently.   The grant has enabled WVJLAP to expand and enhance its Annual Meeting with the inclusion of noted presenters and dramatically increased participation by members of the judiciary and the legal profession, as well as to provide training and education sessions for its Board members.   Since the first WVBF grant in 2004, there have been 84 separate grants made in a total amount of more than $506,000. In addition, more than $89,000 has been provided in support of student scholarships and the legal clinics at the WVU College of Law with specific grants designated by the honored judges and lawyers at the ten Lunch and Laughs With Legal Legends events.   The Bar Foundation congratulates WVJLAP for the beneficial assistance that it provides to judges and lawyers here in West Virginia. _______________________________________________ GENEROUS DONATIONS-   The Bar Foundation Board of Directors wishes to express its utmost appreciation to the following persons who have recently made generous contributions in support of the mission to improve the administration of justice and the provision of legal services to our state’s citizens:   Judge Patrick Flatley-Wheeling Judge Jack Alsop-Webster Springs Bruce Cox-In honor of Bar Foundation Fellow Colleen McCulloch Nancy Whitham-In honor of Bar Foundation Fellow Colleen McCulloch   All donations to the WV Bar Foundation, a charitable entity, are tax deductible to the full extent of the law. ______________________________________________________ BAR FOUNDATION BOARD MEETING/ANNUAL MEETING-   The Bar Foundation Board of Directors quarterly meeting will be held on Thursday, June 2, beginning at 12:00 Noon.
