WVJLAP Grant
      The Bar Foundation Board of Directors has provided a large five year grant to the WV Judicial and Lawyer Assistance Program to support its important activities that help judges and lawyers when they are dealing with drug and alcohol abuse, mental health difficulties, aging, retirement, etc. The most recent grant, the third annual, was utilized to assist with the Program’s First Conference Retreat that was held in April. Pictured above is Supreme Court Chief Justice Beth Walker presenting the Chief Justice’s Award for Outstanding Peer Volunteer to Charles Crooks (Morgantown). According to Robert Albury, WVJLAP Executive Director, the event was “truly a success, with 82 registrants… CLE Presenters, included Elliott Hicks, Brenda Waugh, Yvette Hourigan, Executive Director of KYLAP and ABA Co-LAP Commission Member, Dante DiTrapano, Dr. Brad Hall, Medical Director of WVMPHP and Past FSPHP President and Dr. Roy Smith, Medical Director of The Pavilion Behavioral Health Systems.” In addition, he stated, “WVJLAP’s 2nd Annual Conference Retreat will be held again at Stonewall Resort April 17-19, 2020 and is open to all members of the bench and bar, whether engaged with or supportive of WVJLAP’s initiative. Peer Volunteer training will also be provided to any and all interested in being of service.”
LUNCH AND LAUGHS-KEN GRAY-SEPTEMBER 13
       The WV Bar Foundation’s Board of Directors is very pleased to invite members of the judiciary, the legal profession and the general public to attend the 9th Lunch and Laughs With A Legal Legend on Friday, September 13, 2019, at the Erickson Alumni CenTer in Morgantown, beginning at 11:30 AM, where the honored guest will be U. S. Army Judge Advocate General (ret.) and former WVU Vice President Ken Gray. Lunch and Laughs events are not to be missed. Three “roasters” will have the opportunity to tell stories and tales about the General, and they are former WVU President David Hardesty, former WVU College of Law Dean John Fisher and former WVU Foundation Vice President Lyn Dotson, with Charleston Attorney Kitty Dooley serving as the Master of Ceremonies. The proceeds from the Lunch are designated to General Gray’s choice of the Veterans’ Legal Clinic at the WVU College of Law, as well as for Bar Foundation grants. Sponsorships of $2,000 are provided a reserved table with 10 seats. Individual tickets can be purchased for $60. A majority of the amount is tax deductible. JOINT FOUNDATION FELLOWS LUNCHEON
       The American Bar Foundation Fellows and the WV Bar Foundation Fellows will hold their joint luncheon meeting in conjunction with the Annual Meeting of the WV Bar Association. The joint luncheon is scheduled for 11:30 AM on Friday, August 16, 2019, at Oglebay Resort in Wheeling. The Bar Foundation Fellows program is modeled after the American Bar Foundation, and almost all ABF Fellows are also Fellows of the WV Bar Foundation. The WV Bar Foundation’s Board of Directors has approved a contribution to the success of the event.
