ALPS LAWYER LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE-MAY 18-20, 2012
The Bar Foundation Board of Directors is pleased to announce an important new leadership training program for the next generation of lawyer leaders in West Virginia—the ALPS Lawyer Leadership Institute.
The first LLI will be held from Friday afternoon, May 18, until Sunday morning, May 20, at the centrally located Stonewall Resort in Roanoke, WV, just off I-79 near Weston. The Institute has been named for the Attorneys Liability Protection Society (ALPS), whose President, Robert Minto, Jr., a Bar Foundation Fellow, has provided outstanding support and assistance for this unique endeavor.
The Institute’s featured judges and lawyers have well known expertise and knowledge in leadership skills. The speakers and their topics are:
Professionalism Leadership-U.S. District Court Judge Irene Berger-Beckley
Interpersonal Leadership-Circuit Court Judge Michael Aloi-Fairmont
Leadership Traits-WVU Law School Professor Jack Bowman-Morgantown
Civility Leadership-WVU Law School Professor Tom Patrick-Morgantown
Organizational Leadership-Kara Williams-Charleston
Ethical Leadership-Mark Bassingthwaighte-ALPS
Public Service Leadership-Norwood Bentley-Martinsburg
West Virginia lawyers, who have been admitted to practice law for ten years or less, are eligible to participate. There will be a maximum of only 20 attendees. The cost is $499 per person, which includes two nights lodging at Stonewall Resort, five meals, and all materials, as well as application will be made for twelve hours of continuing legal education credits, with at least three hours of legal ethics creedits.

BAR FOUNDATION FELLOWS DINNER-APRIL 26, 2012
The Bar Foundation Board of Directors has selected the members of the 2012 class of Bar Foundation Fellows. This year’s group of sixteen lawyers and three members of the judiciary joins 223 lawyers and 32 judges, who have been previously selected as Bar Foundation Fellows.
The Annual Reception and Dinner to honor the 2012 class will be held on Thursday, April 26, at the Marriott Hotel in Charleston. The well attended event (black tie optional) begins at 6:30PM and the cost is $125 per person or $1,250 for a table of ten persons.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING-
On March 22, the Bar Foundation’s Board of Directors held its quarterly meeting in Charleston. The Board, which consists of 15 members from all parts of the state and all types of law practice, reviewed and approved the financial report, made decisions on the sale of the two buildings in Charleston which it owns and has placed on the market, as well as selecting Board nominations and the Annual Meeting date.
The Board also took action on two grant applications, the ALPS Lawyer Leadership Institute, the Bar Foundation Fellows Dinner and the Lunch and Laughs with a Legal Legend program.
