SUCCESSFUL LUNCH AND LAUGHS

Robert M. “Bob” Steptoe, Jr. the well known and well respected lawyer from Bridgeport, was the honored guest at the 6th Lunch and Laughs With A Legal Legend on September 9, 2016, at the Erickson Alumni Center in Morgantown.

Pictured above, from left to right, are Master of Ceremonies WVU Provost Joyce McConnell, Bob Steptoe, WV Bar Foundation President Jodie Boylen and the “friendly” roasters—Attorney Susan Brewer, Energy Entrepreneur Ben Hardesty and Business Developer Jack Keeley—with the roasters telling personal humorous stories about Bob, his unique traits and his activities.

Bob was given the opportunity to respond and he did in like fashion! The proceeds from the Lunch will be divided between Bob’s choice of student scholarships at the WVU College of Law and Bar Foundation grants.

YOU HELPED CHASITY

(Last year, because of your generous financial support, a Bar Foundation grant was provided to the Logan County Child Advocacy Center for the important forensic interviews in child abuse and neglect cases. Here is another example of how you have helped a child in need.)

“Chasity age 16

When Chasity first came to the CAC, she was very scared and did not want to talk about what had happened. She did not disclose any abuse during her initial forensic interview and said she wanted ‘this’ all to go away. After her interview, the advocate suggested that she see our therapist, Dena. During her initial session with Dena she opened up and described sexual abuse including violent assault at the hands of her mother’s husband. A second forensic Interview was conducted and Chastity disclosed extensive information. That interview formed the basis for the arrest of her abuser and eventual prosecution.

Chasity attended therapy regularly and opened up to the advocate and therapist. During one early session she stated that she had tried to kill herself multiple times. The advocate and therapist worked to get her into the hospital. Since coming out of treatment, she is a totally different person.

She has made remarkable progress in therapy. She wrote a 22 page trauma narrative about her abuse. In her narrative she states that the CAC has helped her overcome so much & she is thankful for the CAC. She now wants to be an advocate for other children who have been victims of abuse. She will be writing a blog about her abuse to share with the world. Hopefully, her blog will appear in the WV Child Advocacy Center newsletter and receive wide circulation.”
