NINETEEN NEW FELLOWS

On April 23, nineteen new Bar Foundation Fellows were honored during  the 17th Annual Bar Foundation Fellows Dinner at the Charleston Marriott Hotel. The distinguished group is pictured above, courtesy of an excellent photo by Judy Shanholtz of Clarksburg.

Four members of the judiciary and fifteen members of the legal profession were selected based upon the criteria that their “professional, public and private careers have demonstrated outstanding dedication to the welfare of their communities and honorable service to the legal profession….”

WVU COLLEGE OF LAW DEAN GREGORY BOWMAN

Gregory W. Bowman was appointed as the William J. Maier, Jr. Dean of the WVU College of Law, effective May 1, 2015.

Dean Bowman had served as Interim Dean since July, 2014, and as Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, prior to that. He joined the Law School faculty in 2009 and is a recognized scholar in international trade law and remedies. He received his undergraduate degree summa cum laude from WVU, a masters degree, with distinction, from the University of Exeter, England and his J.D. cum laude from the Northwestern University School of Law.

He received the Award for Outstanding Teaching from the WVU Foundation in 2014 and he was named “Professor of the Year” in 2011 by WVU law students. Prior to his teaching career, the Dean practiced law in Chicago and  Washington, DC.

Dean Bowman and his wife have two children and he is the son of WVU College of Law Professor Emeritus Jack Bowman and his lovely wife, Myla.

BAR FOUNDATION BOARD MEETING AND ANNUAL MEETING

The Bar Foundation’s Board of Directors, consisting of 15 lawyers and judges from all parts of the state and all types of law practice, will hold its quarterly meeting on June 4, 2015, at 12:00 Noon at the law offices of Flaherty Sensabaugh Bonasso in Charleston.

Immediately following the Board meeting at 1:00 PM, the Bar Foundation’s Annual Meeting will be held. The agenda for the meeting includes the reading of the Minutes of the 2014 Annual Meeting, a report on the programs and activities of the Bar Foundation, the financial report, the Nominating Committee report and Other Business.

The Nominating Committee report will consist of the election of the following persons to serve three year terms as members of the Board of Directors:
